Parent Education Classes

Community Based English Tutoring (CBET):
**2014 Hoffmann Award Winning Program

CBET offers a unique and innovative curriculum by teaching English Learner parents of Moreland students, how to be contributing members to their neighborhood, schools, classroom and community.  Many parents expressed interest in the class with the goal of helping their child succeed in school.  Representing all of Moreland’s schools, over 300 parents have graduated with the confidence to become volunteers in the classroom, yard duties in the schools, read their student’s report cards and attend parent-teacher conferences.   The Power of Parent Engagement programs also empowers our teachers to connect with newly informed parents by providing a connection to community resources, such as help with rental agreements, public library access, and family health care assistance.

Parent Project:
**2014 Hoffmann Award Winning Program

Parent Project’s unique program in Spanish and English works closely with Santa Clara County’s District Attorney’s office and the San Jose Police Department focusing on at-risk adolescent behaviors such as poor academic performance, truancy, drug or alcohol use, and involvement or interest in gangs.  The only one of its kind in the nation, this parent program has provided second chances for over 200 families in both English and Spanish.
