SNAPS to You (PBIS Program)

SNAPS to you!

The main focus of SNAPS to You is to provide a clear system for all expected behaviors at Anderson.  Through PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention Support), we will work together to create and maintain a productive, safe environment in which ALL school community members clearly understand the shared expectations for behavior. We believe that through the implementation of PBIS systems and strategies we will increase student academic performance, increase safety, decrease problem behavior, and establish a positive school climate.

PBIS methods are research-based and have been proven to significantly reduce the occurrence of problem behaviors in the school. One of the main keys of the system is a focus on prevention. It is based on the idea that when students are taught clearly defined behavioral expectations and provided with predictable responses to their behavior, both positive and corrective, 80% of the students will meet those expectations.

As part of PBIS, Anderson has developed school-wide procedures:

Monthly Character Traits: Each month, teachers talk about the monthly character trait in class.  Students who demonstrate this character trait all month are highlighted on the last Wednesday of each month. Those students selected have pizza with the Principal!  Monthly Character Traits are:

September Role Model
October Acts of Kindness
November Gratitude / Thankfulness
December Thinking of Others
January Problem Solver/Peacemaker
February Leadership
March School Spirit
April Sense of Humor
May Perseverance

Collect SNAPS to You Passes (Acknowledge Appropriate Behaviors): Appropriate behaviors need to be acknowledged on a regular basis. Anderson has developed a formal system that rewards positive behavior. Snaps to You passes are forms used by the individual staff member, at their discretion, as a tool of encouragement and a student motivator.
